1OZ AMERICAN SILVER EAGLE COINS - U.S. Mint
The American Silver Eagle is unquestionably the most popular silver coin for sale from the United States Mint. Issued for the first time in 1986, the bullion version of the Silver Eagle is struck to meet demand each year under legislation passed by the United States Congress in 1986.
The obverse design (front) is based on the U.S. “Walking Liberty” half dollar, first minted in 1916 and designed by German-immigrant sculptor Adolph Alexander Weinman, who also designed the famous U.S. “Mercury” dime, also introduced in 1916. The reverse design (back) features a bald eagle and shield, with 13 stars, representing the 13 original American colonies, positioned above the eagle’s head.
