  • Australia's first commemorative coin
  • Widely considered one of Australia's most beautiful coins
  • Issued to commemorate the opening of Parliament House on May 9, 1927
  • Struck from sterling silver

The 1927 Canberra Florin was Australia's first commemorative coin. With its stunning depiction of the faҫade of Parliament House, it's also often regarded as our most beautiful. Issued to honour the May 9 opening of Parliament, it was truly a coin for the people. Fittingly, the coin drew large crowds of Australians to the Commonwealth Bank upon its release.

The 1927 Parliament House commemorative florin reverse features Australia's  Parliament House inside an ornamental panel above two crossed maces.

Below is another ornamental panel with the date. The surrounding legend reads: 'PARLIAMENT HOUSE AUSTRALIA ONE FLORIN'.

The obverse features the robed and crowned bust of King George V facing left, with the legend: 'GEORGIVS V D.G.BRITT:OMN:REX F.D.IND:IMP:'.

It is comprised of 92.5% silver, 7.5% copper and weighs 11.31 grams.

I would grade this coin as Extremely Fine.

Supplied in a brand new 2x2 coin holder
