Commemorating the 25th anniversary of King George V's accession to the throne, this 1935 Crown is a beautiful piece of British royal history. This coin has been carefully stored in a brand new protective capsule to ensure its preservation.
The obverse features an uncrowned left-facing portrait of King George V, encircled by the Latin legend: "GEORGIVS V. DG. BRITT: OMN: REX. FD. IND: IMP:", which translates to "George the Fifth by the Grace of God King of all the Britains Defender of the Faith Emperor of India." The engraver's initials, "BM" (Edgar Bertram MacKennal), are also present.
The reverse showcases a striking Art Deco depiction of St. George slaying the dragon to the left. Above this iconic scene are the denomination "C R O W N" and the date "1 9 3 5". The engraver's initials, "PM" (Percy Metcalfe), are visible below.
The edge of the coin is plain with incuse lettering: "* DECUS ET TUTAMEN * ANNO REGNI XXV", meaning "* An ornament and a safeguard * 25th year of reign".
Struck at the Royal Mint in London, this coin contains .500 silver and weighs 28.31 grams with a diameter of 38.61 mm. It's a milled, round coin. Interestingly, this Crown was not demonetised with decimalisation in 1971 and remains legal tender in the UK
