Issued as a tribute to Captain James Cook's historic landing on the East coast of Australia 200 years prior, this 1970 release enjoys huge significance as Australia's very first decimal commemorative.
A significant moment in Australia's history, Cook's landing at Botany Bay set the precedent for the First Fleet and European settlement just 18 years later. Released on the bicentenary of his landing, this Royal Australian Mint commemorative has been struck to Specimen quality, and is presented in Its original red RAM case.
The coins remain well protected inside the cases, however the cases have sustained some marks and scratches over the last 50 years (haven't we all!).
