Or read Dr Peter Andrews article about the different echidnas or find more information about 5 cent die varieties published in the Australasian Coin and Banknote Magazine October 2016 (Volume 19 Number 9). In this article Dr Andrews suggests the low echidna makes up roughly 20% of the 1972 5c mintage.

Only 8.3 million minted, and the title holder of "lowest mintage 5 cent coin" until 2016 (44 years later!) with the release of the 50th anniversary of decimal currency 5 cent coin (4.8 million minted),

Supplied in a brand new 2x2 holder.

The final image demonstrates the difference between the 2 coins. Both are 1972 5 cent coins, the top being the "Low" Echidna, and the bottom the "High".
