1991 Australian 5 Cent Coin - LARGE SD VARIETY - Scarce
This 1991 Australian 5 Cent Coin is the Large SD Variety. 1991 was already a low mintage year for the 5 cent coin (29.9 million minted), but added to this, was the usage of two different dies for the reverse.
Only found on circulating coins and not in sets, this variety can be found on 1991 to 1994 5 cent coins.
The 1991 is the most common of the Large SD varieties, with 1992 less common, 1993 scarce, and 1994 rare.
See more information about the LARGE SD VARIETY:
"From 1991 to 1994 some of the five cent show a distinctly larger version of the designer Stuart Devlin's initials and also a difference in the shape of the S. The difference is quite visible to the naked eye as can be seen on the 1994 dated pair below.
The mint sets from 1991 to 1994 contained just the small SD five cent. Both small SD and large SD were released into circulation."
