The Diamond Jubilee Crown is the first coin ever struck to commemorate a Diamond Jubilee - there were no special coins for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897.
Unfortunately it seems at some time in this coins travels, the case has been opened, and some fingerprints have been left on the Obverse of the coin. A small amount of dust has also gotten inside the capsule (please see images).
The hinge on the box is also loose, allowing the lid to close freely. Although not having anymore of these releases I cannot specify if this is as a result of use or how it was originally designed.
It remains a beautiful coin, with a amazing interpretation of Her Majesty on both sides.

The obverse is a new portrait of Her Majesty the Queen crowned and wearing the robes of the Order of the Garter created especially for the Diamond Jubilee by Ian Rank-Broadley. The text ELIZABETH II D G REG F D FIVE POUNDS circles the portrait.

Also designed by Ian Rank-Broadley the obverse features a portrait of the young Queen Elizabeth just as she appeared in her first portrait, with the Latin words DIRIGE DEUS GRESSUS MEOS (May God Guide My Steps) to the right of the portrait and the date 2012 to the left.
