Tibet "(1947) 16-21" X#1 Valcambi Mint 1978 Restrike - 5 Sho (Gold) - Graded PR70 by PCGS (None Finer) - CERT VERIFICATION #43855683
Tibet "(1947) 16-21" X#1 Valcambi Mint 1978 Restrike - 5 Sho (Gold) - Graded PR70 by PCGS.
This is the Gold proof release of this range, which from a worldwide maximum mintage of 250, only 90 were actually struck.
"Fully struck and lustrous, free of visual marks. The PCGS 70 grading standard does allow for “as minted” defects, as long as those flaws are minor and do not impact the eye appeal of the coin."
Only 4 of these coins have been graded by PCGS at the time of writing, this is the first and only to be graded PR70 DCAM so far.

These facsimile re-strikes have quite an interesting history. Struck in extremely limited numbers by the Valcambi Mint, authorised by His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama, these coins were the brainchild of three South Australian Numismatists and their company Tibetan Coin Distributors.
The 1947 re-strikes were the second round of releases, and featured the 5 Sho (the first being the 10 Srang)

This coin also includes the original wooden case with certificate of authenticity, though the coin has been removed for grading and now resides inside a slab.
