It came as no surprise to us that a milk bar should provide such an expansive variety of predecimal coinage, as was the case with this iconic Queen Elizabeth II issue - fresh from the Ipswich Milk Bar Hoard!
As small retail businesses it dealt mainly with small transactions, and there was no such thing as credit cards or eftpos. With shop owners during the predecimal era you always had to have plenty of coinage on hand.
Regularly, coins were stashed away in large number, either circulated coins or - as in the case of the Ipswich Milk Bar Hoard - in genuine original rolls!
