1970 Panama - 1 Balboa Silver Coin - Vasco Núñez de Balboa
Here's a chance to own a 1970 Panama 1 Balboa Silver coin, a fascinating piece of Panamanian coinage. This coin, never intended for general circulation due to the rising price of silver in the 1960s, was sold with a premium above its face value.
The obverse features the Panamanian coat of arms with nine stars above, symbolising the country's provinces at the time of issue. The inscription "REPVBLICA - DE - PANAMA" arcs above the coat of arms, while "PRO MVNDI BENEFICIO" (For the Benefit of the World) is inscribed below.
The silver content and weight are noted on either side as "LEY GR. 0.900 26.73", and a wreath and the date "1974" (note: the product title states 1970, but the coin features 1974 - this discrepancy should be highlighted to the buyer) are at the bottom.
The reverse showcases an armoured bust of the explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa facing left, with a wreath below. The denomination "VN BALBOA" (One Balboa) is inscribed above the bust, which touches the rim.
This coin is struck in .900 silver with a copper content of .100, weighing 26.73 grams and measuring 38.1 mm in diameter. It was minted at the United States Mint of San Francisco.
This particular coin is supplied with its original bag of issue and has been housed in a brand new capsule to preserve its current condition.
Don't miss this opportunity to acquire a unique silver proof coin from Panama with an interesting history.
