Celebrate a significant milestone in Australia's history with this complete set of three commemorative medals, issued by the ANZ Numismatic Society in 1976 to mark the 75th Anniversary of Australian Federation (1901–1976). This historic collection features three distinct metal compositions, each struck to honour the anniversary.
The Commemorative Set
This special trio set includes the following three medals, each sharing the same detailed design and a diameter of 51 millimetres:
- Silver (.925) Medal (Antique Finish): Weighs 56.44 grams, has an edge inscription of *153, and is housed in a Blue Plush Case.
- Gilt Medal: Weighs 54.26 grams, has an edge inscription of *153, and is housed in a Blue Plush Case (Note: There is no official record of the exact composition of this metal).
- Bronze Medal: Weighs 52.21 grams, has an edge inscription of *53, and is housed in a Red Plush Case.
Design and Significance
The medals were struck by the Melbourne-based private mint K.G. Luke and feature a classic design that pays tribute to the beginnings of the Commonwealth:
- The Obverse features a view of Parliament House, Victoria, which served as the original seat of the Federal Parliament in 1901. The inscription reads: '75TH. ANNIVERSARY OF FEDERATION / AUSTRALIA' and 'ORIGINAL / 1901 / FEDERAL PARLIAMENT HOUSE'.
- The Reverse features the society's details within a broad rim decorated with stars, inscribed with: 'ANZ / NUMISMATIC SOCIETY / MELBOURNE / EST. 1965'.
Condition Note
The medals are presented in their original blue and red plush cases. Please be aware that some wear to cards and scuffing of capsules may be present on the outer packaging due to handling and age.
