The 1981 Crown, with a face value of 25 pence, was issued to commemorate the marriage of His Royal Highness, Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales, to Lady Diana Spencer on the 29th of July 1981.
Obverse: The coin features the second (decimal) portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, facing right, designed by Arnold Machin. The inscription reads: “ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F D.”
Reverse: On the reverse side, there are conjoined profile portraits of Charles and Diana, facing left. The design is informal and contemporary, created by Philip Nathan, a former Royal Mint engraver. The inscription reads: “H.R.H. THE PRINCE OF WALES AND LADY DIANA SPENCER 1981.”
Edge: The edge of the coin is reeded.
