2011 20c Coin - Australia Remembers - War Historians
The Australia Remembers series recognises those who made history beyond the battlefields.
In 2011 it celebrates Australian war correspondents who have shaped our perception of conflicts since the Boer War.
C.E.W. Bean, chronicler of Gallipoli and founder of the Australian War Memorial, and Damien Parer, whose memorable images from the Kokoda track preceded his death in the line of duty, exemplify an honourable occupation distinguished by bravery and integrity.
The coin is based on an image from the Australian War Memorial of an Australian Official Photographer, standing with tripod and camera on a British Mark V Tank, as the pair record the advance of Australian troops through the Hindenburg line.
Presented in the same format at the Australia Services Nurses and Soldiers of Fromelles coins. There is a brief description of the work done by these brave Australians.
This is the third coin in the Australia Remembers series.
