2012 Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee $5 Crown - Brilliant Uncirculated Coin
Celebrate a monumental moment in royal history with this unique 2012 $5 Brilliant Uncirculated Crown from The Royal Mint, issued to mark Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee—a remarkable 60 years since her accession to the throne in 1952.
This coin represents the first commemorative coinage ever struck by The Royal Mint to celebrate a British monarch’s Diamond Jubilee.
Historic and Unique Design
This coin features a unique pair of portraits, both specially designed for this occasion by acclaimed sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley:
- The obverse displays a contemporary effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, facing right and wearing the elaborate robes of the Order of the Garter.
- The reverse features a beautiful adaptation of Mary Gillick’s first official portrait from 1953, showing the young Queen wearing a crown of laurels. This is accompanied by the Latin legend, ‘DIRIGE DEVS GRESSVS MEOS’ (May God guide my steps), words which first appeared on the Gold $5 coin of 1839.
The edge inscription, ‘A VOW MADE GOOD’, is a poignant reference to the speech made by the then Princess Elizabeth in 1947, reaffirming her lifelong commitment to service.
Features and Presentation
- Grade: Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) finish, which is of a much higher quality than standard circulation coins, resulting in sharper details and a shinier finish.
- Metal: Cupro-nickel alloy (the same as Australian circulating coinage).
- Presentation: This Five Pound Crown comes housed in its original presentation sleeve/folder, providing additional historical context on Her Majesty's sixty-year reign.
Condition Note
The original display folder remains sealed in the original Mint bag. Please note that some shelf wear may be present on the outer bag.
