About this Coin

Issued in 2013 to mark 60 years since Her Majesty’s coronation in 1953, this "Purple Coronation" $2 is one of the most iconic and sought-after coins in Australian decimal history. While initial reports suggested a larger release, the official mintage was strictly limited to just 1 million coins for circulation. This small figure, combined with its striking purple design, has led to the coin being heavily hoarded by the public. Finding an example in Extremely Fine condition—where the purple paint is largely intact and the surface retains much of its original shine—is increasingly difficult and represents a significant find for collectors.
