2016 Queen Elizabeth II 90th Birthday £5 Crown - Brilliant Uncirculated Coin In Folder
Celebrate a truly historic occasion with this 2016 Royal Mint £5 Brilliant Uncirculated coin, issued to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th Birthday. This landmark event saw Her Majesty become the first British monarch to reach their hundredth decade.
Design and Significance
This commemorative coin features a design personally approved by The Queen:
- The reverse showcases a beautiful and symbolic design by acclaimed artist Christopher Hobbs. It features a central EIIR cypher surrounded by a wreath of nine roses, which represent Her Majesty’s nine decades of life. This motif was inspired by the heraldic rose of England and The Queen’s love of flowers.
- The inscription around the wider edge reads ‘Full of Honour and Years’.
- The obverse features the contemporary portrait of The Queen designed by Jody Clark, which was released the previous year.
Features and Presentation
The coin is a £5 Crown (UK Legal Tender) with a Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) finish, struck to a much higher standard than ordinary circulating coinage to ensure a beautiful finish with every detail evident. It is composed of cupro-nickel, weighs 28.28 grams, and has a diameter of 38.61 millimetres. The coin comes in the original presentation wallet with additional pictures and information about Her Majesty’s ninety years. Only 74,195 coins were produced in this presentation format.
