2018 50c Coin - XXI Commonwealth Games - Gold Plated

Celebrate Australia's hosting of the XXI Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, from 4-15 April 2018.

Australia is the first nation to host the Games five times, following previous events in Sydney (1938), Perth (1962), Brisbane (1982), and Melbourne (2006).

This keepsake coin honours Australia's contribution to the Commonwealth Games, embodying the spirit of "Share the Dream".  Gold-plated to reflect the Gold Coast's sun and the region's iconic whales, the coin's reverse features an artistic depiction of a Gold Coast beach, complete with a whale frolicking in the surf.

This uncirculated, gold-plated coin is a limited edition, with a final mintage of only 19,692.

Australia's connection to the Commonwealth Games dates back to 1930.  As one of only six nations to have competed in every Games, Australia has consistently demonstrated its sporting prowess.  Topping the medal tally 12 times, Australia is the most successful Commonwealth Games nation, with a remarkable 2218 medals, including 852 gold.
