2019 D-Day Landings 75th Anniversary £2 Coin - Brilliant Uncirculated Coin In Folder
Mark 75 years since one of the most audacious seaborne assaults in history with this 2019 Royal Mint £2 Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) coin, issued for the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings. On the 6th of June 1944, the militaries of Great Britain, the United States, and Canada launched Operation Overlord, targeting five beachheads codenamed 'Utah', 'Omaha', 'Gold', 'Juno' and 'Sword'.
Design and Significance
This high-quality commemorative coin captures the scale and strategy of the operation:
- The reverse design by Stephen Taylor symbolically captures the invasion plan, showing five arrows thrusting onto the Normandy coastline, representing the five beachheads. Approximately 160,000 Allied troops crossed the English Channel on D-Day.
- The obverse displays the fifth official effigy of Queen Elizabeth II used on circulating UK coinage, designed by Jody Clark.
This is the base metal version, struck to a high-quality brilliant uncirculated standard, making it a perfect collector's piece.
Features and Presentation
The coin is a £2 Crown (UK Legal Tender) with a Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) finish, achieved by being struck twice during production. It is made from a cupro-nickel and nickel-brass alloy, weighs 12.00 grams, and measures 28.40 millimetres. Your collectable £2 will be supplied in a protective capsule, built into a stylised coin sleeve with details about the events leading up to and on 6 June 1944.
Condition Note
The original display folder remains sealed in the original Mint bag. Please note that some shelf wear may be present on the outer bag.
