The Royal Australian Mint celebrates a precious glimpse into our past with this striking 2021 20c Uncirculated Coin, honouring the discovery of the Mungo Footprints. Found in the Willandra Lakes Region World Heritage Area, these are the oldest preserved footprints ever found in Australia and the largest set of Ice Age footprints in the world.

Twenty thousand years ago, three distinct journeys were captured forever in the petrified clay: a family group walking, hunters running, and an individual "hopping." Discovered in 2003, these footprints offer one of the most intriguing and intact insights into how people lived, travelled, hunted, and survived in the Pleistocene era during the last Ice Age.
