50 Years of Colour TV Medallion Cover
Celebrate 50 years since colour television burst onto Australian screens with this limited edition medallion cover. Only 1,500 of these unique covers have been produced, each postmarked and individually numbered, making it a truly special collectible.
The centrepiece of this cover is a striking medallion crafted from Zinc Alloy, measuring 36 x 33mm. What makes this medallion truly special is its lenticular design. Tilt the medallion in your hand and watch the image of the television magically shift from classic black and white to vibrant colour, a nostalgic nod to the transition that changed Australian viewing forever.
Remember "C-Day"? At the stroke of midnight on March 1st, 1975, Australian television networks officially switched to colour broadcasting.
Major networks like the ABC ("Come to Colour"), the Nine Network ("Living Colour"), and the Seven Network ("Seven Colours Your World") all heralded this exciting new era. Interestingly, despite Australia being a little behind other parts of the world like the USA and Canada in adopting colour TV, Aussies embraced it wholeheartedly. By 1978, a massive 64% of households in Melbourne and Sydney had snapped up a brand new PAL standard colour telly.
