The Perth Mint is pleased to present this beautifully crafted 1oz silver gilded coin, celebrating the powerful and free-spirited Year of the Horse. A stunning addition to the prestigious Australian Lunar Series III, this coin makes a magnificent collector's item or gift.
The Legend of the Horse
According to Chinese tradition, the emperor ordered a great race between all the animals on Earth to determine who should occupy 12 positions in the lunar calendar. In pursuit of the fifth placed dragon, the free-spirited horse galloped towards the finish line with determination. In a sudden twist, the horse was cheated by the snake which was wrapped around its hoof, causing it to lurch back in fright. Despite the setback, the resilient horse claimed seventh place.
Characteristics of the Lunar Horse
Those born under the sign of the Chinese Lunar Horse (in 2026, 2014, 2002, 1990 and every 12th preceding year) are said to be independent, charismatic, and possess a deep love of adventure. Being passionate and spirited, they are gifted with natural charm and an ability to inspire others.
Gilded Design and Pure Silver
Struck from 1 Troy oz of 99.99% pure silver, the coin has a minimum gross weight of 31.107 g and a maximum thickness of 3.50 mm.
The coin’s reverse, designed by Ing Ing Jong, portrays a majestic mare alongside her young foal, both depicted with elegant manes in a striking galloping stance. The horses are splendidly gilded in 24-carat gold. The background includes towering mountains and the lush serenity of grasslands. Also included in the design is the Chinese character for ‘Horse’, the inscription ‘HORSE 2026’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The obverse bears the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, alongside details of its weight, fineness, and the $1 monetary denomination (AUD).
A premium collectable, the coin is housed in an individual presentation case and is subject to a strict maximum mintage of 25,000, with a specific issue limit of 23,500.
