To acknowledge the sacrifice and valour of the landings of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli in 1915 the RAM released this NCLT Last ANZACS dollar coin in 1999. By 1999 even a boy who had lied about his age to join the army at 15 or 16 would be one hundred, and sadly, veterans of Gallipoli were very few indeed.

This was the first Aluminium-bronze $1 coin to introduce the Ian Rank-Broadley 4th Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.
