2016 $5 Coin - 50th Anniversary of The Battle of Long Tan

Remembering Long Tan:

On 18 August 1966, 108 Australian and New Zealand troops faced over 2,000 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops in the Long Tan rubber plantation. This intense battle, the largest single engagement fought by Australian forces during the Vietnam War, resulted in 18 Australian soldiers losing their lives and 24 being wounded. The battle's anniversary, 18 August, is now known as Vietnam Veterans Day in Australia. This coin serves as a lasting tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who fought at Long Tan and all those who served in the Vietnam War.
