2024 Marine Emblems: New South Wales Eastern Blue Groper Medallion Cover

This vibrant Eastern Blue Groper Medallion Cover celebrates the official marine emblem of New South Wales. In 1998, New South Wales became the first Australian state to proclaim a marine emblem, choosing this friendly and inquisitive species to represent its coastal waters.

    Product Overview

Released as part of the 2024 Marine Emblems stamp issue, this cover combines official philatelic elements with a high-quality medallion to honour one of the most iconic residents of the NSW coastline.

    • The Medallion: Features a limited-edition medallion with a premium plated finish. The design utilises enamel fill and full-colour direct printing to capture the deep, striking blue of the adult male Eastern Blue Groper.
    • The Stamp: Includes the corresponding $1.50 stamp from the Marine Emblems issue, featuring a detailed illustration of the species.
    • The Postmark: Cancelled with an official First Day of Issue postmark, making this a complete and professionally curated collectable.
    • Limited Production: This release is strictly limited to a mintage of just 2,500 units. Each cover is individually numbered to ensure its place within this limited production run. Please note that serial numbers will differ from those shown in listing images.

    Natural History and Significance

The Eastern Blue Groper (Achoerodus viridis) is a species of wrasse known for its bold and curious nature. These fish can grow up to a metre in length and are found inhabiting rocky reefs, river estuaries, and seagrass beds from southern Queensland down to southern Victoria. Their protected status in NSW has made them a beloved sight for divers and snorkelers along the coast.

    Condition Note

As this item is now two years old, please be aware that the cover may exhibit light wear consistent with careful handling and storage. This can include minor corner bumps or light surface marks on the pictorial envelope, which are common for authentic medallion covers of this age.
