Highlights:

  • Mintage: 10,002
  • Encapsulated
  • Themed card

This commemorative coin honours the sacrifice of Australian soldiers during the Battle of Fromelles, a devastating engagement of World War I known as "Australia's bloodiest day." In a single night of fighting, Australia suffered 5,533 casualties, including 1,917 lives lost. The objective of the battle was to divert German forces from the larger Somme offensive, a costly struggle further south.

The Royal Australian Mint has struck this uncirculated 50-cent coin in cupro-nickel. Its reverse design poignantly incorporates historical photographs, offering a glimpse into the lives of the Australian 5th Division soldiers who bravely fought on the Western Front
