Design and Significance

This collectable £2 coin honours a key aircraft in the RAF's later history:

• The reverse showcases the versatile Westland Sea King helicopter, used by the RAF from 1978 to 2015. The motif, designed by brothers Neil and Richard Talbot, depicts the Sea King in the process of winching down a rescuer against a textured background. Although designed for anti-submarine warfare, the Sea King is best known for its critical role in search and rescue missions.
• The obverse displays the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to appear on UK coinage, designed by Jody Clark.

The coin is a £2 Crown (UK Legal Tender) with a Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) finish, achieved by being struck twice during production to give a sharper finish compared to ordinary circulation coinage. It is composed of a cupro-nickel inner section and a nickel-brass outer ring, weighing 12.00 grams and having a diameter of 28.40 millimetres. Each coin is supplied inside a limited edition slipcase with details about the Sea King.
