2018 RAF Centenary - Vulcan £2 Coin - Brilliant Uncirculated Coin In Folder
To mark the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 2018, The Royal Mint released a series of Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) £2 coins celebrating the RAF's fascinating story. This edition features the formidable Cold War-era Vulcan bomber.
Design and Significance
This highly collectable coin honours the aircraft that was the epitome of power and an integral part of the UK's nuclear deterrent:
- The reverse design, created by Neil and Robert Talbot, shows a Vulcan bomber in flight with the centenary dates and 'VULCAN RAF' inscribed around the coin's edge. The Vulcan first flew in 1952, served as the nuclear deterrent from 1956 to 1984, and saw its final operations during the Falklands War.
- This unique design is paired with the fifth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, designed by Jody Clark.
This is a marvellous gift idea for any aviation memorabilia enthusiast or coin collector.
Features and Presentation
The coin is a £2 Crown (UK Legal Tender) and is struck to BU standard (Brilliant Uncirculated). It is composed of base metal alloy, weighing 12.00 grams. It is issued in a limited edition presentation coin sleeve.
Condition Note
The original display folder remains sealed in the original Mint bag. Please note that some shelf wear may be present on the outer bag.
